Interns

Water is a chance to grow.

Alongside our award-winning graduate programme, we look for university students to join us for our summer internships and year in industry placements.

An internship is a great way for you to get a feel for our business and the kind of work you could do if you join us after you graduate. The perfect introduction to an exciting and challenging industry – and a company that delivers a vital water resource to over six million customers.

At Anglian Water, our interns are given real responsibility from day one. It’s an opportunity to help us overcome diverse challenges and contribute to transforming our business into the water company of the future. You can expect to be involved in exciting projects that will help to shape our strategy.

Our programmes

We offer two types of internships – you could choose to join us for eight weeks over the summer or for a full year on an industrial placement. Our internships run in both operational and non-operational roles – you might join us in Water Services or Water Recycling, for example, or in one of our support functions like Treasury.

Latest vacancies

We currently have no open opportunities for this role area. But keep checking back later – new roles are added every day.

What we look for

Our summer internships are open to all university students across every discipline, and from all year groups. If you join us as a first or second year student, you could choose to apply for an internship the following summer.

To join us on a year in industry placement, you’ll ideally be in the third year of a four-year degree so you can draw on the practical experience you gain with us in your final year of study. Last year, our year-long programmes spanned a wide range of areas, from HR through to Civil Engineering and Water Project Management.

Where could this take you?

Do well on an internship with us, and it could get you one step closer to a place on one of our graduate programmes. In fact, we established our internship programme to help us build a pipeline of future graduates.

So if you do well during the summer or year you spend with us, there’s every chance you could be invited to apply for one of our graduate roles. And of course, you’ll have a wealth of relevant experience to draw when you make your application.

Benefits

“The idea of working at Anglian Water was really exciting because of their amazing reputation. It was voted the UK’s best place to work by Glassdoor this year.

After graduating, I wanted to go into HR but I wasn’t sure which area yet. This internship has given me the chance to rotate across different departments, meet lots of people and learn so much about HR.

“I’ve already learnt more than I could have imagined at Anglian Water.”

There’s no usual day-to-day in this role. I could be coordinating events, researching how we communicate training opportunities, shadowing recruitment advisors or attending industry events.

I’ve also been encouraged to take on training beyond HR (like Water Recycling) to ensure a good business understanding. Lots of my colleagues support me to study for my CIPD qualification outside of work too. Life at Anglian Water is varied, friendly and fun.”

“I’m studying Business and Event Management at the University of Hertfordshire. I’d never done project management before, but I thought there were similarities between what I’m studying and managing projects – there are definitely similar principles.

Anglian Water appealed to me because of its reputation. I enjoyed the interview process too – the two interviewers made me feel very at ease. Then when I started, I fitted in straight away. Everyone is always happy to help.

“The culture here is amazing! I can honestly say I have never worked for a company that’s so nice and welcoming!”

The role is about managing projects to hit our deadlines. I also help to plan for upcoming events and workshops.

I’ve really enjoyed all the training I’ve had through our online learning platform. I’ve also had the chance to go on days out with different technicians to get a better understanding of what they do. It’s a challenging role but the support is fantastic.”
