Supplying water to millions of people in what is the driest region in the country means we have to be innovative. We have to keep pushing the boundaries and approach challenges from different angles.
That’s why we always embrace fresh perspectives. And it’s why, as a graduate with us, your ideas will be highly valued.
You can also expect to be part of an environment where learning is celebrated – people here love to push themselves and we make sure they have the training and development they need to do exactly that.
By joining us, you’ll help us to raise awareness of the importance of water. And whether you’re collaborating with customers, your colleagues or our communities, you’ll play your own part in building a secure future for our region’s water.

With an emphasis on the operational side of the business, our 24-month Water Services/Water Recycling Operational Graduate Management Programmes will give you the opportunity to work in our two largest business areas. Over the course of a number of placements, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge you’ll need to take on a management role within Anglian Water, helping us to embrace the challenges we face and transforming our business into the water company of the future.
Water Services:
You’ll gain on-the-ground experience of network maintenance, sampling and leakage to ensure that we can continue to deliver a reliable supply of safe, clean water to our customers. As a graduate with us, you’ll help to lead and manage teams, gaining the kind of operational management experience that will enable you to make sure our precious supply of water is accessible both now – and long into the future.
Water Recycling:
You’ll work alongside front-line managers in our largest business unit as well as spending time with our field teams learning about the sewage treatment processes and maintenance of our assets. Along the way, you’ll gain an understanding of our focus on health and safety, and why it’s at the heart of everything we do. Water recycling plays a critical role in our lives and you’ll add value through your involvement in critical operational projects.
Our ambition is to help make life better for our customers, every single day. Our dedicated Customer & Wholesale Services teams are at the heart of making sure this happens.
What we do really matters. Water is the lifeblood of our world and we’re proud of the difference we make. We enable businesses to grow, environments to flourish and families to get on with their day-to-day lives.
We have a reputation as industry innovators. We’re constantly exploring new opportunities; working hard to find new and better ways to look after our customers’ individual needs. And this is where you come in – we need more great people to help us on our quest. You’ll learn how we work with our operational colleagues in the field, as well as how we schedule and manage our tasks so our customers get the best possible service.
Our Information Services department plays a critical role in enabling us to deliver our vital services across the East of England. Our increasing investment in leading-edge technology programmes make this an exciting time to join our function.
Over the course of a number of placements, you’ll help to shape our future strategy and technological direction. You can expect to deploy innovative solutions to business challenges, taking part in all elements of delivery. That will encompass everything from defining requirements and agreeing the scope through to solution design, and building and testing. It’s an opportunity to develop project management skills and to develop the ability to oversee outsourced suppliers.
We’re recognised as being one of the leading infrastructure companies in the UK. Our strategic delivery and commercial assurance professionals are integral to keeping our assets running efficiently and effectively.
You could be interested in innovation, in designing and constructing new water and water recycling treatment works or in the commercial assurance of our investment programmes to meet customer demands. You may also want to develop smarter ways of managing our existing networks or pipes. If you’re interested in shaping the future of our business, our Strategic Delivery & Commercial Assurance Management Programme has something to offer you.
As well as a 2:1 degree (the subjects we’re looking for vary from programme to programme), you should bring plenty of drive and a real passion for helping us shape the future of our industry. Team working skills are important too – you’ll be a natural when it comes to building strong working relationships and you’ll have the initiative to proactively share new ideas.
We’re also looking for a flexible approach and a full, UK driving licence as you’ll need to travel and sometimes relocate between placements.
You’ll receive a competitive starting salary (with a review every six months whilst you’re on the programme).
Being a successful utilities company takes lots of different people, all working hard to keep our water clean and readily available for our customers. That’s why we’re so passionate about recognising and rewarding the great work they do.
We’re committed to supporting the learning and development of our people, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge they need to be successful and achieve their potential. You can also choose your own benefits – including these:
After an initial induction period at one of our offices or sites, you’ll then progress through a series of rotational placements which could be based at any of our sites or offices. And because we also hold meetings and run training courses throughout the region, it’s important that you’re flexible about your location.
We run a number of events for students interested in embarking on a graduate programme with us. If we don’t have any events listed, it’s because we’re not recruiting for graduate roles right now. However, you’re very welcome to come and meet us at any of the other early years careers events that are taking place in our region.
