Leadership and support roles

Water is a complex operation.

As a business, we’re always looking to the future. Thinking about how we can drive improvements. Invest in our infrastructure. Deliver better value and increased sustainability.

Our plan makes the case for one of the biggest investment programmes our region has ever seen. We’ve proposed to further reduce leakage, as well as investing in pipes, pumps and treatment works, and outlining our plans for protecting the environment and ensuring there is enough water to keep taps running for generations to come.

Our leadership and support roles encompass opportunities in areas like HR, Finance, IS, Legal, Corporate Affairs and Health & Safety. You could provide on-site support at one of our facilities, helping to keep everything, including the water, flowing smoothly. And we have leadership roles – an opportunity to be part of a team that’s dedicated to shaping the future for our sector.

What we look for

The skills we’re after vary – it all depends where you join us. For areas like Finance and HR, for example, we’ll need to see specific experience and ideally a professional qualification. In an on-site support role, it’s your organisational and people skills that will matter most. And to join us in a leadership role, we’ll want to see a track record of success and a clear vision for our future.

Wherever you join us, you’ll need to be passionate about doing more than enabling us to supply crucial water and water recycling services.

You should be passionate about helping us develop new, more sustainable ways of working, challenging the way people think about water through our Love Every Drop campaign. You’ll relish the chance to make us a water company fit for the future.

Planning the day

This is when my day starts. First, I deal with any urgent issues, followed by planning my day according to the priorities.

10am

Organisation is key

I organise meetings, book trains and hotel rooms through to organising speaker events and troubleshooting IT issues – and anything else that comes my way!

2pm

Project planning

I’ve had the chance to get involved with bigger projects recently, such as our business plan submission, so I work on the document management system whilst ensuring the team are as stress-free as possible.

Portfolio Manager

“I’m responsible for ensuring that we have a clear and accurate investment plan for a whole host of change, from innovative IT transformations and electric vehicles through to parks and conservation maintenance.

I go home with a real sense of pride that we’re contributing towards providing a fundamental life-need to our customers.

“I get to have really interesting conversations with people across the business to better understand their delivery plans, risks and opportunities.”

The company culture has a nice balance of friendly and caring with a professional mindset that’s always open to challenge and innovation. And the flexible nature of many roles means that you can maximise your work-life balance.

My colleagues, managers and industry experts have positively challenged my thinking, encouraged collaboration and opened up plenty of creative ideas to explore. As a result, I feel that I’m a much more rounded person since joining Anglian Water.

So far, this has been a hugely rewarding and exciting career journey which has given me the opportunity to develop both professionally and personally.”

Lead Occupational Health and Wellbeing Partner

“I joined Anglian Water because it was a great progression opportunity – I’m now managing my own team within occupational health. Day-to-day, I could be doing anything from developing a new business-wide wellbeing strategy to overseeing the support of employees returning to work following illness.

My biggest challenge is probably increasing the awareness of the great occupational health and wellbeing tools on offer. We have fantastic Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) and a private healthcare scheme, as well as access to physiotherapists and virtual GPs.

“Everything we do is to ensure our staff are happier, healthier and safer.”

We’re big on innovation too. In fact, we recently introduced more ways to keep healthy at work such as cycle desks, bibliotherapy and mindfulness exercises.

Since starting at Anglian Water, I’ve noticed the duration that people stay on here. It’s not uncommon to meet people who have been here more for than 20-30 years. And I think that really says something about how well we treat our people.”

Nikki
Finance Manager

“A few friends of mine worked at Anglian Water, and they were always talking about how much they enjoyed it. The glowing reviews (and challenge of learning about a new sector) led me to join eight months ago.

I’m now a Finance Manager – my team are responsible for budgeting, reporting and reviewing financial performance and partnering with business leaders to help with financial decision-making.

“Ultimately, we’re trying to drive efficiency and value for money for our customers.”

Although I’ve only been here a short while, I’ve already been involved in the development of a new governance process, changes to budgeting and reporting in preparation for AMP 7.

It’s been a completely fascinating, friendly and enjoyable experience.

I never fully appreciated what goes into providing the clean water out of my tap. There’s so much more than meets the eye. And it’s an organisation full of people who are fiercely proud of what they do day in, day out.”
